For a fresh citrus salad, I opt for grapefruit rather than a sweeter citrus, like orange or mandarin. It lends itself better to dressing, and I find it easier to cut the acidity and add depth with just a few additions.
Here's how to make the best citrus salad this summer season! It's surprisingly easy, and all you need for tools is a cutting board, proper knife and a beautiful serving bowl.
In your serving bowl, combine and lightly toss together:
2 grapefruits, peeled from the rind and suprêmed
1/2 tsp sea salt
1/2 tsp sumac
1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil*
Cilantro, optional
Fresh mint
Juice from 2 lemon (or lime) wedges
Tips & Substitutions: Olive oil cuts the bitterness and tartness of the grapefruit. And if you're looking for a sumac substitution, add a teaspoon of lemon zest instead. If you want a naturally sweeter salad or one with greater depth, include a Cara Cara or Moro orange. Feel free to customize and skip the cilantro.
Mother nature never clashes! Salud!
